The highly anticipated mixtape by new rap artist from Chicago D. Son dropped this summer and if you weren't a believer before #SummertimeChi will make you a believer now.

From the moment you push play you are greeted with melodic vocals and rhythmic beats that make you anticipate the next track. The added drops adds character to the tape making you feel like you are right in the studio with Son as he records.

He fuses old school sounds with samples and new beat patterns to make a new relateable sound.  Songs like Sweetest Taboo (Money) takes the sounds of jazz favorite Sade' and discusses a subject we all know well in the summer: making money. I love the trumpet sample used in the Summertime Chi track and the way song switches up; very smooth.

Overall I give this mixtape 4 1/2 out of 5 strawberries for being a good seasonal mixtape with memorable songs. Sound quality was good, but in some songs the beat over powered the vocals making it difficult to heat the lyrics. Nonetheless, it's music both males and females can relate to and enjoy whether you're from Chicago or not.
