Kanye West Runaway In Review

Kanye West's highly anticipated video movie Runaway premiered today across BET, MTV, MTV2 and live internet streams from MTV.com and VH1.com. Written and directed by West starring model, now actress Selita Ebanks as the Phoneix, Runaway was a mix of art, philosophy, storytelling and music.   

The movie starts with West traveling on a road through the woods when a ball of fire lights the sky than crashes to the Earth. From the fire lays a beautiful Phoenix who West takes under his 'wing'. He guides her through his world teaching and showing her the customs. However, the lesson is truly taught to Kanye as she informs him that all along the world HE lives in is changing him from what he is truly meant to be.

She says the "statues" in the world are not 'art' but Phoenix who have turned to stone because they have stopped burning. After the two share their love, the Phoenix leaves, and goes back to her world in flames. Kanye chases after her, leaving you mind to wonder: What did ALL these symbols mean?

I do believe Kanye's main goal in this film for the viewers watching it is [EXCUSE THE LANGUAGE BUT] Fuck what other people "THINK" is the right way to do things. We all are sent to this Earth with a purpose and task. IF we do what others think, we are only molding ourselves to nothingness; to stone. So we should let our flames burn and let the imaginations of our minds "run" freely.

Overall, the film was just AMAZING! From the colors, to the imagery, to the music and just plain art. It's beautiful to see an artist REALLY be an artist. I believe the last greatest video movie this world has seen was Michael Jackson's Thriller and that came out in the 1980s!Kanye is truly leaving his mark not only in music but in Hip Hop. Very few hip hop artist combine the world of ballet, visual art, and music together

Runaway consisted of 8 songs from Ye's upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy set to release November 22, 2010; including Lost In The Woods, Runaway and Devil In A New Dress. Based on this movie it seems that this album will be a very dark one. Nonetheless, the music is groundbreaking and a definite game changer.
