#IHaveIssues: Extreme Back to School Dresscode

The social sites were a buzz yesterday after links and comments were posted around about this seven year old girl, Tiana Parker, who was sent home for not following the school "dress code".  The Deborah Brown Community School in Tulsa,OK policy states

For safety reasons, girls weaved hair should be no longer than shoulder length. Wearing hair in multiple colors is not allowed. Boys' hair is to be short and neatly trimmed. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings.

I guess its safe to say that the imagery in Hip Hop can be blamed for this sudden "change to dress code". With rappers wearing locs as a fashion now, and the female artist wearing weave and different colors its only the next step for kids to follow. But what about the children that wear them for religious reasons. etc?

What are your thoughts?
