IHaveIssuesWednesday: Trayvon Martin- Are we doing it because it's "popular"?

Seriously? When I saw this flyer I could not believe how disrespectful these promoters could be to a life that was lost in an inhumane incident.

If you are unaware of who the boy is on this flyer then it is clear you have been under a rock for the best month or just blind for that matter.

The boy in the boy in the picture is 17 year old Trayvon Martin, a black teen who while walking home from the store he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman (a latin male) who claims to be the neighborhood watchman.

Trayvon Martin

So many different stories are going on around this "case" that I personally am not talking sides either  way. However my issue is, what does this murder say about society? Zimmerman has not been arrested or tried yet for murder yet in neighborhoods all across America black on black murders, italian, white and every color imaginable the average person who confesses to murder is placed in jail.

Outside of news coverage, government officials, especially black ones are showing their support by wearing hoodies to demonstrate that what happen to Trayvon was inhumane, wrong and justice needs to be served on our end. But do these gestures truly matter?

Illinois Rep Bobby Rush, a Democratic Congressman, was ordered to leave the House chamber this Wedneday because he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt in honor of Trayvon Martin. Take a look at the video.

Celebrities have also gotten involved to show their support. But these gestures STILL make me question: are they just doing this for publicity and to bring a "good image" to themselves or do they truly want justice?

Chris Brown

Now you may think I'm being rude or disrespectful for calling this people "attention whores" by using a boy's death to "enhance" their brands but seriously think about it. Chris Brown for example is constantly being bashed let and right for being a so-called "woman beater" yet he wears a hoodie to show he supports justice? But even still, the hoodie has F.A.M.E on it which is the name of his last album.

Dwayne Wade

Again, I'm not calling anyone a liar and I am a HUGE Chris Brown supporter and fan; he is not the only person either particpating in these acts. But behind the surface we must dig deeper and truly ask ourselves as a society, what are walking around in protest and taking pictures with hoodies on really DOING to make this world better and recieve REAL justice besides just virally showing our support and adding to the barbershop gossip talk?

Jennifer Granholm

Can our children grow up anymore? Racism or not. Hatred or not? It is clear there was no justice in this Martin situation. So please people, address yourselves and your community and truly ask. I'm I changing this society EVERYDAY or just when it's "popular" to do so.
